๐ฅ DIY Dino Eggs Display
Dino eggs in a nest basket are one of those small details that guests notice and comment on without knowing why they love them so much. Styrofoam eggs painted gold with a textured finish look almost like real fossils. Quick to make, inexpensive, and the kids are fascinated by them.

Step-by-Step Instructions
1
Base coat the eggs in brown or sand
Paint all the eggs with a base coat of earth brown or sand acrylic paint. This gives depth to the gold layer you'll add on top. Let dry fully (20 minutes).
2
Add the gold top coat
Using a dry brush (just a little paint on the brush, blotted on a paper towel first), lightly brush gold paint over the surface, letting the brown show through in the recesses. This creates a weathered, fossil-like finish rather than a flat solid gold. You can also do this with a sponge.
Tip: Less paint on the brush = more texture and depth. More paint = flat and uniform. Go light.
3
Optional: Add texture
Mix a little fine sand into your Mod Podge and brush a thin coat over the egg. This gives the surface a rough, stone-like texture that makes it look way more realistic. Let dry completely before the next step.
4
Assemble the nest
Fill the basket with shredded kraft paper or faux moss. Nestle 3โ5 eggs into the filling, tilting each one at a slight angle. They should look like they're nestled, not lined up perfectly in a row.
5
Style and place on the table
Place the nest basket on the table โ next to a centerpiece or near the welcome sign. Add a small label that says "Dino Eggs โ Don't Wake Them!" for extra fun. Kids will be drawn to it all party long.
